Well, watched SAW again last night, after I cooked up a steak and some fries, made myself a tall glass o'German Absinthe and called my boy Nidhug in Portland.
...Still not so great.
My original scrutiny holds true.
Cary Elwes (who I LOVE,... it's all about the PRINCESS BRIDE) is a bit over-the-top, I realy hate the character/performance that Leigh Whannel puts in (when my scripts start getting made into movies there's no FUCKIN' way you'll ever get to me to take even a small-ass role in my movies), the movie drags near the end, there's too many twist and plot devices used near the end, and (this is my main complaint) it's NOT NEARLY as fuct up, twisted or gory as they made it out to be. They SOLD this movie on the gimmick that it's the most messed up thing people will ever see... but really it's just a bunch of David Fincher and Roman Polanski cliches rolled into one movie. I mean, it's a passable movie, and I'd give it **1/2 outta 5 stars, but nothing great.
I guess jadded horror people like me have frankly seen it all.
But I DID get back my copy of the wonderful MAY from my boy Parker, who had it for FOUR MONTHS, and now I get to watch tiny little Angela Bettis go psycho!!!!!!!!!
Dammit, I love that movie!!!!!!!!!!
Started reading RUM DIARY.
Thompson truly was a beautiful writer and I am immensly sad he went Hemingway on us and blew his brains out.
But at least he lived a full (if seldomly sober) life and left a large body of work.
Tonight I see a Norman Warren double-feature (INSEMINOID/PREY) and some writing (both in THE WORK and in my dream cataloge) in my future...
Dreamt about William S. Burroughs last night!
He and I were in the backyard of his house in the countryside of Missouri and we were trying to dispose of a body he accidentally blew the head off of.
It was very Hitchcok-esque.
I guess it was 'cuz I just got done reading MY EDUCATION and I had Burroughs on the brain (well, I ALWAYS have Burroughs on the brain. Then more than ever).
It was great talking to Nidhug last night!
OH!
And now I'm on Myspace.com!
Don't know why I threw that out there. I dunno...
