Today is a special day. And before it begins I'll post this blog cause I know I wont have time later. Two years ago today is when I had my twin boys, Conner and Keegan. I had them via emergency c-section, prematurely at 31weeks 3 days. It was the 3rd time I'd gone into premature labor, and this time with each contraction, Conners heartrate would not only decile it would stop entirely. I'd already been in the hospital for 3 weeks on hospitalized bedrest. So when they saw conners heart rate, they had me to the O.R and did the surgery so fast both of my twins came to the world at exactly 3:11pm Conner was 3lbs 10oz Keegan was 3lbs 11oz
Conner was sent to the Med NICU, Keegan was transferred to Lebohneur Childrens hospital PICU. He had multiple birth defects. I knew Keegan had birth defects, we just weren't too postive how bad it would be we wouldn't be able to tell for sure until he was born. His birth defects were fatal. His ureters were completely blocked, one of the most severe forms of a defect called posterior ureter valves. Basically his kidneys had no way to function, and he was already in renal failure at birth. He lived for 8 days, but on the 8th day after a consult with his doctors, they told me it comes to a point where they're not doing things "for" a baby, they're doing things "to" him. I could understand that and couldnt see Keegan suffer any longer so I had him taken off all moniters, respirator and IVs (except the nutrient one) and placed in my arms in which he died about 20 minutes later. he is buried at Elmwood in Memphis Tennessee.
Since the twins were identical, back at Med NICU they kept running multiple tests and scans on Conner to make sure everything was okay with him, which it was. How one twin developed such severe birth defects and the other totally healthy I don't know.
So today Conner, and well Keegan too, turn the big 2 years old! Me and Conner are gonna have a special day together, I;m gonna let him eat all of his favorite junk foods, we're gonna go to the Columbus zoo. And to honor Keegan, whatever toy I get for Conner today, I'm gonna get 2 of. The identical toy we are going to take to Ronald Mcdonald house and donate it to a kid there. They're always taking donations of new toys.
Sorry this blog turned into kind of a huge downer, but its also very happy cause its very special that Conner made it though everything and is a healthy 2 year old!
heres the twins a few minutes old. its the only pic I have of them together. A nurse snapped it for me, I wish i knew who she was. When I woke up in recovery room copies of this pic were on my chest.
