One thing I've noticed from this site is how it makes you feel that where you come from is a little more unique (and not just the same ol' shithole you've had to wake up to since time immemorial).
For about 50 years we've had cool American Rock and Movie stars and pop culture thrust at us, and, don't get me wrong, most of it is great.
But it does make you a bit derogatory about your own surroundings. Everything seems a little more colloquial.
I live in the biggest city in the SW of UK, which is only a population of about 400,000, but we have some of the most amazing and unique countryside around, which it becomes sodding easy to take for granted.
But I read all these journals and I want to celebrate what we have here, you really appreciate the whole history of a place, the (frankly) bizarre mutating of the English language (even I can't understand what some people say round here!).
And I'm writing this whilst listening to The Pentangle (English folk band from the early 70's) and feeling there's a place for me (although killing my TV would definitely help this).

And yes, Hell's Angels have titty bars ... but thankfully it is not their titties on display. That wouldn't be as nice. Check out their Superbowl Party. I mean, you gotta do something to make football more interesting!
