the thing i love about blues is that it is timeless. a band doesn't change it's sound every 2 albums and 4 years later. major label don't (and won't ever) have their greasy finger on it. a blues man will record his own matterial but also record covers and put his own stamp on songs by willie dixon, howlin' wolf, robert johnson, and even johnny cash sometimes. the band will play 5 45 minute sets all night long and play for 5 days straight to quarter filled rooms of rig pigs, blue collar boys, cougars, hippie scenesters, blues lovers, and alcoholics. not the hour and a half and the cheesy double encore at the same club every six months. depending on whos playing bass, drums, guitar or piano will depend on the sound of the show.
there may be less originality in blues, but it's not what riff you play, it's your own style and the way you play.
