first, let me just say that i am not fatmike, and so i do not know what he thinks. all i know is that i agree with what he wrote, and i have my own ideas about the current affairs of things. i am not willing to go to canada, but i am also not going to accept that the other guy might enact laws that i don't agree with, or that i think are unfair or unjust.
why would you do that? why would you just sit by and accept something that you don't believe with. what would have happened if the slaves had just sat around and accepted their plight in life? what would have happened if the women of this country said to each other "well, they say that we can't vote, so i guess that's the way it is." change comes when people are not satisfied with the way things are going, and they decide that they are not going to take it anymore.
unfortunately, bush has duped a whole lot of americans. in my meager opinion, he has lied and lied and lied and lied and lied, and the americans that voted for him bought it hook, line, and sinker. that, or they voted based on the fact that W says that he is a christian. my parents voted this way. they couldn't give a shit about him lying, cheating, or leading soldiers to their death for his friends and family's profit...all they cared about was that he said that he prayed and went to church on sunday. and my parents are not alone. the evangelical christians are his bread and butter, after all...

so, in my opinion...the "i'm right, you're wrong" is perfectly fine in this situation. hassling minorities at the polls is wrong. killing animals for sport or food is wrong. not allowing homosexuals to have the same rights as heteros is wrong. enforcing laws that are based on a religion that he believes in, and that i don't is wrong. old white men telling women what they can and can't do with their own bodies is wrong...

what could be more american and patriotic than standing up for what's right?? this country was build on people fighting against things that were wrong...not working with the people who were wrong. i actually had someone today tell me that i was unamerican and that i should move to france.. i love america as much as anyone, but i will not take it for granted. if i see something going on that isn't right, i will stand up and say something. if i wanted to be unamerican, i would stay silent.

i'm in the same boat as you are man. i grew up in a republican, southern baptist household. i heard all the same things, over and over...and so hearing it lights a fire under my ass. i guess the way i look at it, and can identify...is by trying to put myself in others shoes. do i like to be told what to do with my body, or that i can't go see my signifcant other in the hospital (after visiting hours) just because we happen to be a gay couple? the oppressed need someone to stand up for them, so that they know that there are other people who do care.
i do agree with you that the welfare system is fucked up...a woman on foodstamps should not be driving a lexus. it puts a hurting on us as taxpayers, and it is a bad reflection on others who do get by on food stamps.
i guess there is just something in me...i need to feel like i am trying to make change. please dont' think that i am trying to argue with you...i'm really not.
