Sorry to hear about it all going pear shaped. Regular dyadic realtionships are pretty tough to sustain, so a double dyad with a shared point or a triad would be even more so one would suppose.

The odd relationships I've had always went well because I was the inverse of your boy -- hated to be the center or focus of attention, liked time to myself so much that I'd accidentally disappear for weeks on end, etc. I made a good weakest partner in multiperson relationships, but I absolutely sucked ass at being part of a standard two-person relationship. So, I suppose I'm saying that it's tough to find a great match.

I've had a couple of short-term relationships like yours, and I'd have to say that its success all depends on personalities. If you or your men tend to think of relationships as involving ownership (i.e., your his, he's yours) or if they have strong feelings about the way things ought to be relationship-wise, then it's probably not going to work out, regardless of how willing they are to experiment now.

Check out Barbara Foster, Michael Foster, and Letha Hadady's "Three in love : mnages trois from ancient to modern times". It's not a great study, but it does point up some threesomes that have succeeded, including Warren Buffett's (who'd of thought anything sexually interesting ever happens out in the corn).
