this is my brother's obituary, abbreviated because you dont need to know all about my family (lots of full names are listed in the "survived by" portion):

GLOUCESTER Jed James R., born on Feb. 19, 1964, in New York City, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 in Gloucester.

Jed is fondly remembered for his gentleness of spirit. People were often struck by his quiet smile and sweet-tempered welcoming manner. Jed had great artistic ability in the visual arts and music, nurtured by growing up in a household filled with a constant stream of art activities, theatre productions and musical instruments of all types. He began his artistic career creating ceramic sculptures at two-years-old with his mom, and went on to many other varied artistic endeavors, including: contributions to the New York Transit System graffiti art world, acting in Bread and Puppet Theatre productions with Peter Schuman in Vermont and Maine, creating his own band, the Sahara, in New York City at age 15. Jed's choice of a career to support his artistic pursuits was to become an electrical contractor, following in the footsteps of his father. His electrical work was well-respected and sought after, largely because of the well-deserved pride he took in his craftsmanship. Jed acted in several film and television productions, including the Home Alone series, New Jack City, and Law and Order, and was a member in good-standing of the Screen Actor's Guild.

Jed loved Gloucester. He spent many summers as a boy in Lanesville with his Aunt Doris and her family. Jed decided to come to Gloucester in 1999 to make a new life, and spent the last decade of his life in Gloucester. He pursued his music career with various colleagues, volunteered at Art Space, and worked as an electrical contractor until the last year, when his health issues made working full time more difficult. His family wishes to thank all those who reached out to help Jed with his health issues, including his friends at The North
Shore Health Project, and Action, Inc. ...............................

ARRANGEMENTS: All are welcome to a memorial service at the Independent Christian Unitarian Universalist Church of Middle Sreet at 3 p.m. on Oct. 11 with the Reverend Wendy Fitting. There will be a collation in the vestry following the service. Jed's remains will be interned at the Harris Family Cemetery in Rougemont, N.C. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jed's memory to The North Shore Health Project, 67 Middle St., Gloucester, MA.
