I wasn't happy my first semester and a half at my school either. I was homesick, two thirds a continet away from Portland, I missed my (now ex-) girlfriend, I really didn't know anyone, and couldn't find a graduate assistantship (meaning I was broke). It definately got easier as I got into the swing of things.

It sounds like you have even more on your plate so I wish you well.
