the problem is when you are going out with someone,
its hard to just be like, hey, wanna, you know.

you barely have to do anything
and its comforting to be with someone you know.

I agree with the "comforting to be with someone you know" philosophy. It's so true!
Of course there is a difference between comfortable and happy. I couldn't get the two straight so I ended up going to extremes. No dating, no sex no nothing until I got control of myself and knew what I really wanted. It sucked at the time but when you take the option of sex out of the picture things can get lot clearer.
Anyways, you're still young. If you can't experiment and make mistakes at 20 when can you???
