I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!!!
OK maybe not but I sure feel like it
Thursday before last seems like a year ago with the amount of stuff thats happened in the last week and a half, and I think that it also may have taken about 5 years off my age at the same time (too much can be a bad thing when you've got an inner 12 year old running out of control) I don't know what to tell everyone about first since there's just so much to spill. For those of you that are a fan of whitewidow I'm sure that you've got a pretty good idea of what happened, and for everyone else maybe I had better start from the begining........
A little over 2 weeks ago I found out that I was getting promoted
I was also getting ready to go on vacation for a little over a week with the very lovely whitewidow
My chief suggested that I stopped in the next Monday so she could be there for my frocking (promotion ceremony) and when I spoke with her she was a good sport about it agreed to go along. Friday I was off on a high speed run across the back roads of Death Valley to avoid the loathsome Friday traffic on the way to Vegas where I checked into the Tropicana and it was as Mr. Bond put it " ...the hotel Tropicana is quite comfortable," (but that was back in 1971)
Next time it's going to be the Venetian, but the hotel suited us just fine and I had a couple of bottles of the bubbly chilled on ice waiting. We did a little romping around the strip that night after champagne and took in a few sights before getting a little well deserved rest
All day Saturday we spent wandering around sin city doing what anyone that's not a big gambler does saw the sights. We did this till my first surprise of the vacation started that night....

I had managed to get some pretty good tickets (we had a close call on not getting our tickets
) to see Mystere a very BIG surprise since whitewidow is a HUGE Cirque du Soleil fan. Our seats were great, and the show was absolutely stunning. I too am now a Cirque nut
We got all sorts of good touristy Cirque fan stuff including a great photo of the two of us (I'll scan this and post it later). More watching the weirdos on the strip and Treasure Island's "Pirate" show
as well as several viewings of the awsome fountain in front of the Bellagio (It's the best free show on the strip)

By Sunday we were pretty Vegased out, but stuck around to meet up with her parents and sister that were flying down for their 30th wedding anniversary and vacation. We hung out and watched the fountain a couple more times
while we were waiting for their flight to get in and discovered the cool replica of the streets of Italy inside the Venetian
(I so want to go to Italy now) By the time they were all done checking into their hotel and everything else we were pretty beat and still had a 4 hour drive back to my neck of the woods so that we could get up and be at my work for the ceremony at 7... We got home at around 3 AM or so and were up and out the door at a little after 6 AM
Everything went pretty well and she got to meet all the medical people I work with and see a little of Area 1 (Its about 50 times removed from where the aliens are but we still do some secret squirrel stuff)

Against all good judgement we hit The Bloody Highway 395 fueled on who know's what at this point towards Temecula, southern California's other wine country. Stopping breifly at my mom's house before going in search of FellOnEarth (AKA my little brother) for lunch at Rubio's fish tacos.
YUMMY!!! and then checked out the winery my grandfather started and father currently runs (his brother's and sister's forced him to sell
) I gave her the nickle tour and inside poop on all the good stuff, but we were too tired to do any wine tasting and needed to catch a bit of a nap. We took it easy and spent a relaxing time at the house I grew up in till later that night when we snuck out like a couple of teenagers afraid to get caught where I showed her the best night time view of the city at a secret look out 2400 feet above Temecula at about 1 in the morning. When we got back we crashed while my mom's dog had puppies
7 in all (anyone want a little puppy?)

We bummed around for a good part of the next day taking the Xterra up the back side of Mt. Palomar on the fire roads to over looking both Riverside and San Diego counties with my fraternal unit in the back seat. whitewidow was a good sport even when the trail got narrow and had a 500 foot drop down the side of the mountain
When we got back my mom had thrown together a feast, all kinds of good stuff to eat, her super awsome avacado salsa fresca, shrimp chicken and sausage kabobs with plenty of fresh vegetables out of her own garden.
(thanks mom) Mr. and Mrs whitewidow and her sister drove down from Vegas to join us (my mom her partner, dad and his wife, brother FellOnEarth both step sisters whitewidow and myself) Talk about a full house!
Everyone got along fine and had a great time (now I take it that you get the idea that we've been more then just friends for a little while).

The next day we were up and ready to go to Disneyland nice and early (think of when you were a kid Christmas morning). Up and over the Ortega highway and off to the magic kingdom.... The happiest place on earth
The park was a little crowded but not that bad I've seen it lots worse. whitewidow's parents and sister were there to meet us, and I had kidnapped my brother FellOnEarth so there was a gaggle of us and we were still able to hit a lot of the rides we wanted to go on including Splash Mountain (someone didn't want to get wet but got soaked anyways) The great thing was that the two biggest kids in the park were there for their 30th. I think that they were having more fun then some of the ankle biters all hopped up on lemon ice thingies and cotton candy were. The biggest dissapointment for me was that it was Grad night and the park was going to be kicking us out at 9 PM and the fireworks show actually happening was suspect and it was absolutely crutial to my plans.

I had been planning this for well over 3 months and some how managed to keep it a secret (kudos to Panthro for keeping it under his hat for so long). I knew the exact time and place to make our engagement officially official.... We had the best viewing location on Main Street for the show, my timing couldn't have been more spot on... and then whitewidow takes off through the crowd to get a better view
Lucky for me I caught up with her just in time
I asked her to marry me right after Julie Andrews finished saying "And remember - Dreams really do come true" (OK the big punk viking is getting leaky eyes writing this now.... sniff sniff) I had no doubt in my mind she would say yes since we had already gotten a few things in motion as far as our wedding goes, but due to our jobs there wasn't really a right time to do this properly till now. I would have been a fool not to do so, and now I'm the luckiest man in the world for doing so. I believe that I made her night, if not her year in that split second I proposed. She looked at me and between the fireworks going off and the little girl singing "starlight star bright first star I see tonight she managed to say yes before collapsing into my arms (literally I thought she was going to faint). What a way to end a night at you guessed it.. the happiest place on earth

The next day just happened to be my birthday (happy birthday to me.. happy birthday to me
) and another day at Disneyland, this time it was off to California Adventure with clarkekid and the rest of the gang. Lots more rides and fun was to be had by all. We just had to do a little running around and getting some silly stuff for a few gag photos at our upcoming wedding (You'll just have to wait and see what we've got planned) and lots more rides in the main park as well
I was happy to see that someone was willing to try some of the flash cooked ahi tuna that I got for dinner just because she'd never tried anything like it (this would become a deciding factor later this week for dinner). And of course we caught the fireworks show again since we missed a good portion of it the night before

The next day it was a off to 6 Flags Magic Mountain (yes we are this crazy). It was hotter then hell, and we were all a little burned out on theme parks but we did it anyways. If circumstances would have been a bit different the day would have been a lot better, but too much can be too much. The park was not crowded and the lines were really fast. It took us longer to get to where the line started for a couple rides then the actual line itself.
Tatsu was absofuckinglutly insane, it has to be the most out of control balls to the wall rollercoaster I have ever ridden on. I don't think that anything short of strapping oneself to a tomahawk cruise missle would come close to the ride this thing delivered. I loved every minute of this monster from start to finish. We had to leave early to make it back to Hollyweird in time for a night out at the Underground, and we also were too parked out to stay any longer then we did.

Later that night we met up with clarkekid at the Underground for a night of good drink and fun. koala and Cinemonk showed up a bit later and we all got to share some good stories and music. It seemed like we spent more time outside so we could talk then inside, but that's the way the night progressed, with the exception of FellOnEarth who was MIA with whitewidow's sister (she was busy getting him drunk)
After that we went across the street for some good old fashioned transexual/transvestite hookers in the diner along with Mmmmmm STEAK AND EGGS
(sorry I'm not much of a red meat eater anymore)

After a late night I had to get my brother back to Temecula in time for work at 10, we had to haul balls back to Temecula, I'm still not sure how we made the drive so fast, but I will say that the bears were nice enough to not be on the look out for tripple digit speeders
I stopped in to see my mom long enough to thank her again for the wonderful dinner and place to crash for a couple days earlier that week (and to check on the puppies)
before making another land speed record run to Las Vegas....

We got a room in Stateline at Buffalo Bills before going back out to the strip for you guessed it more LAS VEGAS! We were really just looking for an excuse to buy tickets to see KA at the MGM Grand, and lady luck was with us, we got some pretty good seats for the show. Before the show whitewidow and I sat down and shared some sushi (I'm so proud of her for trying everything)
It was pretty good stuff, but not up to par with most of the places I was a regular at in Japan, but it was good enough to be an enjoyable experiance. Then it was off to see another Cirque du Soleil show. KA is an amazing show, I highly recomend it to anyone that's going to Vegas for a show. I'd go see it again, and again, and again.... Well you get the idea. I think that I was dumbfounded for a good portion of the show, spellbound and unable to take my eyes off the stage. I can't wait till we go to see another show.

On the way back to the hotel we walked over to the Bellagio to catch the fountain a couple more times, a good note to end our vacation on, my baby had a plane to catch in the morning
and we had to be at the airport by 5 am... Too bad we didn't wake up till 5:40
We totally thought that we were fucked, AWOL for her, and just bad for me because I knew that I was just as much to blame
The Air Canada people tried to help us but weren't really being all that helpful. whitewidow was able to change her flight from Regina to Calgary where she might have been able to rent a car and then drive all night to make it to work just in time to avoid getting into trouble. Her Sgt was understanding but AWOL is still AWOL, and I don't think that if push came to shove that she would have gotten off scott free. Lucky for me I remembered that I had a credit with West Jet, and made a quick call to them, explained the situation to them, and the fact that my favorite little medic in the whole world is Canadian Army and she would get into trouble if we couldn't work something out. West Jet was awsome, they had her scheduled on a flight (that somehow got delayed
) and got her back home safe and sound (I'm a West Jet customer for life now) with out charging us an arm or a leg for the flight. They were even nice enough to use my credit as payment for the flight (and I've still got enough left over to make for a cheap flight up again) And thus ends the Fear and Loathing part of the vacation. No trip to Vegas is complete with out some kind of fucked up story thrown in somewhere.
