i have to write a paper on education, and i can't think of a definite subject. the problem, once again, are these stupid hippy paper assignments which would allow me to navel-gaze for 10 pages or do a dramatic capoeira interpretation and get full credit.
so, naturally, i want to do an academic paper instead.
i've reformulated my music listening recently - i'm listening almost entirely to smart playlists that collect all the songs that have been played x number of times (since it last reset, which is unfortunately frequently)
there was something interesting i thought i was going to say, but i can't find it.
instead i guess i'll just repost my newsfeed.

Unborn babies carry pollutants, study finds
The GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, found that the EPA's Toxic Substances Control Act gives only "limited assurance" that new chemicals entering the market are safe and said the EPA only rarely assesses chemicals already on the market..."Today, chemicals are being used to make baby bottles, food packaging and other products that have never been fully evaluated for their health effects on children -- and some of these chemicals are turning up in our blood," said New Jersey Democrat Sen. Frank Lautenberg (news, bio, voting record), who plans to co-sponsor a bill to require chemical manufacturers to provide data to the EPA on the health affects of their products...Unborn U.S. babies are soaking in a stew of chemicals, including mercury, gasoline byproducts and pesticides...Of the 287 chemicals we detected in umbilical-cord blood, we know that 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests," the report said...Blood tests did not show how the chemicals got into the mothers' bodies, or what their effects might be on the babies...

Chemical Triggers Breast Cancer in Lab Mice
THURSDAY, July 14 (HealthDay News) -- A chemical found in cleaning materials, textiles, plastics, paper and some personal-care products can trigger breast cancer, at least in lab animals, a new study has found...Since the early 1990s, experts have known that the chemical, called 4-nonylphenol, binds to estrogen receptors, said senior study author William Baldwin, an assistant professor of biological sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso.

China, Russia warn of world domination
MOSCOW - Russia and China warned other nations Friday against attempts to dominate global affairs and interfere in the domestic issues of sovereign nations in what appeared to be a veiled expression of their irritation with U.S. policy.
Presidents Vladimir Putin and Hu Jintao signed a joint declaration after two days of talks calling for a stronger United Nations role in global affairs and opposing attempts "to impose models of social and political development from outside."
The Russian and Chinese militaries are due to hold their first joint maneuvers later this year - which some observers have seen as Russia's response to cooling relations with the U.S. and other Western nations.
China has purchased billions of dollars worth of fighters, missiles, submarines and destroyers after the Soviet collapse, becoming the main customer for struggling Russian defense industries.
