Happy solstice, everyone! The longest day of the year always seems to come too early in the warm season..it hardly seems fair that the days will start getting shorter from here on out.

I'm all amped up on too much coffee (seemed like a good idea at the time) and am getting ready to get all mellowed out on beer (seems like a good idea...

I sailed today for the first time! No...I went sailing for the first time.

I pulled on some ropes at crucial moments, but the only reason I did so was because I was told what to do.

Superbly windy on Lake Harriet, and Tricia and Anna and I went out with Ryland on his boat. Sometimes it feels like you're going to tip over, sometimes...

Thanks so much for you comment. I totally needed to hear that. kiss

I would loooooove to go sailing. I seriously need to learn how to swim. dammit. I don't even want to think about the kind of panic I might find myself in if I was to go out in the middle of the water on a boat with no motor.
sita:
I would love to go boating in MN with you!

I know the Y has adult swim classes. I need to just let it go and enroll.

I got a raise today, both in my wages at work and in my spirits.

This review has been a long time coming (3 years, or so) and it went sooo well I can hardly believe it. The prospect of getting more money seems to have fattened my liking for the job. Also, I learned that I no longer have to perform the crappiest task...

Congrats on the raise!

You like accounting? Ewwww!!! LOL. j/k. I never thought I liked numbers until I started stock market investing. Then they got reeeeeeeealllly interesting. I haven't done it in awhile, so now I'm completely stupid when it comes to numbers. But, we'll get back at it.

I would love to go kayaking if I could swim and wasn't afraid of the water. ::sigh:: blush

Today is the best day ever.

Not for the usual reasons for hyperbole..winning the lottery, finding long lost friends..

..but because I feel like myself again.

I've been in this strange funk for a week..two weeks..where I've just felt *off*. I've said stupid shit, I've done stupid shit, and I've probably left everyone who knows me (in person, at least) with the impression that I'm...

Thank you for your suggestion. Those balls must be very good considering they are sold out!

I'm glad your funk only lasted weeks.. mine went on for years. I'd gotten so caught up and lost myself so easily.. it's taken me years to try and get to my core again.

Very important distinction there between having needs and being needy. I have a problem of not bringing mine up before it's too late... or sometimes even when it's too soon.

I hit a dog with my car today. A black lab pup, not even a year old.

I was driving west on 26th st, in the right lane, and as I approached 8th I saw, behind a car pulled up to the stopsign, some black dog legs running towards 26th. I checked the rearview, hit the brakes to slow down, slammed on the brakes when...

I'm glad it was just a bump and not a real hit, also glad you looked around for a bit but he's probably just shaken up not injured.

Aw you should see the rest of it without fear of unwanted advances and leacherous intents, it's really good.

Oh and welcome to the funny farm. wink
sita:
No.. not the same one. Just Irish boys in general. I haven't yet rang him back.

Went out dancing tonight, salsa at some club in downtown. Really not in the mood for the meatmarket, cabbed it home early in somewhat of a funk. I thought it was kinder to leave than to stay and share my crappy mood.

My cab driver was a nice man. He had been an x-ray technician in "his country" (didn't mention which one that might be)...

This online journaling thing is surprisingly good. I'd always kind of mocked the concept, but it's much better than I could have anticipated.

..who knew?..

Rode my bike to work today, which is 40 minutes each way. I like it, and plan on doing it as regularly as possible, rain or shine, but hope for shine. I need to get a helmet, though, as I...

I've only been to Nevada once and I stayed the weekend in a trailer on an Indian Resevoir. It was funny because there were seven of us and we caravaned there from Cali in the middle of the night in two trucks. The trailer was so small we had to sleep in shifts. lol. But I did do some nickel machine gambling at the stateline on our way back to Cali. I was only 15 and I quit gambling and left after the waitress kept hassling me to order a drink. I was afraid she was going to card me!

I'm not much of a gambler. I never play with any hopes of winning. Mostly I like the little video game type machines where you can bet in dimes or nickels. I can sit for hours at one of those with a $5. lol. Sometimes I get lucky and will walk away with $25 more than I started. biggrin

The one thing I hated about owning a car and being a girl was how the repair shops always tried to rip me off. I took my car in for a tune-up once, and they tried to sell me a new carburator.. making it sound like my car could break down any minute if I didn't pay them $800.00 now. Assholes. I was really glad to find one of my friend's father is an automech. He would do all the work for me during down time at his shop and only charge me for parts. Sometimes it would take awhile if the shop was busy, but it was always worth the wait just to know he wasn't trying to rip me a new one.

So it's all perspective. All of it!

Talked with a new close friend tonight, discovered that our time together has been (or seemed) different to each of us. My life is only marginally structured, with work being the major structuring factor..I am busy, but most of the things I'm busy with are things that could get done now or later, and probably be classified under...

Finished up work today in record time, and went to dinner with my friend Tony. He's also in a transitory state, regarding his pottery, the main difference between our two predicaments is that his pottery supports a wife and four children.

I really don't have much to bitch about, now, do I?

I mean, my income isn't dependent on selling this stuff..I am afforded the...

Yesterday I went through the work to set up a booth at an art fair. I should say "art fair", since most of the stuff there could be better classified as craft. Not that art is better than craft, or vice versa, but it's always preferable to be showing your audience what they're looking for in terms of price and category.

Anyhow, I hauled about...

Thanks! I liked taking the pics, on various roadtrips last summer. I don't have any pics of occupational stuff that's recent, as I seem to be in the midst of yet another aesthetic change. Meaning, I'm not exactly sure what kind of potter I am, exactly.

"Ceramic artist" might be more accurate, as I seem to be edging more towards functional sculpture rather than functional pottery.

But as I seem to be constantly burned out as a result of having a clay-related 9-5 job, it's a miracle if I have any drive to make stuff of clay very often.

I'm making a concerted effort to be bigger than my burnout, though.
