I hit a dog with my car today. A black lab pup, not even a year old.
I was driving west on 26th st, in the right lane, and as I approached 8th I saw, behind a car pulled up to the stopsign, some black dog legs running towards 26th. I checked the rearview, hit the brakes to slow down, slammed on the brakes when I saw that the pooch wasn't stopping, and was probably going between 5 and 10 mph when he hit my front passenger side. He, however, was going at least 10mph. Wherever he was trying to go he wanted to get there in a hurry!
So he bounces off my car and goes running away from traffic. I pulled over and hyperventilated for a minute or two, called P but he was on the phone, so I called my mum. She said not to worry, that if pooch was able to run away he couldn't be much worse than bruised. P called back, advised lightly looking for pooch (which I had done by looping back around the block).
So when I was able to drive again after the adrenaline flow ebbed a bit, I went home and gave my roommate's black lab a big old hug.
I hope that dog is okay! He was wearing a collar, but trailing no leash. Seriously nothing more I could have done, but if I wouldn't have seen him first he would have been done for. My car too, probably..
On a lighter note, had tea with a friend yesterday, and will be having dinner with girlfriends tomorrow. Nikki just got back from 6 months in Italy and I can't wait to see her.
