Yesterday I went through the work to set up a booth at an art fair. I should say "art fair", since most of the stuff there could be better classified as craft. Not that art is better than craft, or vice versa, but it's always preferable to be showing your audience what they're looking for in terms of price and category.

Anyhow, I hauled about 150 pounds of pottery, a big table, a giant booth, some chairs, and a cooler into a North Minneapolis park, all for the privelege of selling $15 worth of stuff all day.

If you wanted some chintzy plastic earrings or a wine glass with bunnies painted on it, this was your place. The potter, here, did not do so well and vows to be more thorough in researching all future art fairs.

It was a good experience from the standpoint that I now know what to leave home, what I should bring next time, and how best to wrangle the tent into being its very best tent-self. Also, I got to know my friend (who showed some tiles, sold none) very well over the course of our 10 hours sitting in the sun. I can't believe he didn't know that a lot of women constantly check out other women's breasts! He was floored when I asked him if he saw the odd shape of a browser's boobs.

Thanks! I liked taking the pics, on various roadtrips last summer. I don't have any pics of occupational stuff that's recent, as I seem to be in the midst of yet another aesthetic change. Meaning, I'm not exactly sure what kind of potter I am, exactly.

"Ceramic artist" might be more accurate, as I seem to be edging more towards functional sculpture rather than functional pottery.

But as I seem to be constantly burned out as a result of having a clay-related 9-5 job, it's a miracle if I have any drive to make stuff of clay very often.

I'm making a concerted effort to be bigger than my burnout, though.
