So i just got back from Batman Begins... and i didn't care for it. It does some things right... Batman trained by ninjas... ok that's a good premise. Explanation of his technology... pretty good. The deeper exploration of Batman's motivation... great. The rest is all some degree of crap.
The dialog... especially toward the end was utter garbage. "didn't you get the memo"... wow... comedy genius. In general all the one liners were predictable and lame. They fell back on the "picking yourself up" spiel too many times and in totally obvious places.
The camera work was distracting. I can understand you want it shaky and frantic to some degree... but take it easy on all the cuts. They might as well of had a totally black frame during most of the fights as you rarely can tell who is doing what. I came to see the action.
Bale was ok at being Bruce, but his Batman was corny. His attempt at making him sound serious and tough with that gravelly voice was unintentionally funny. Speaking of unintentionally funny... the audience and myself broke out in laughter when the chick slapped Bruce toward the beginning of the movie. And why wasn't anyone surprised when they first saw Batman? I mean the attorney woman reacted like it was a perfectly normal occurrence.
Finally the stupidest part of the movie. The human body is 75% water... every person should have burst just like the pipes in the city. After taking the time to explain all of Batman's technology it's stupid to hinge your climactic ending on something so obviously incorrect.
I give it 3 out of 5 stars. For reference Batman and Batman Returns get 4 and 3 stars respectively. Schumacher's nipple fests get 1/2 star each.
