School started today!
I scheduled all my classes for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This serves a dual purpose. One is that I get 4 days a week to dedicate just to work and and homework I have, plus free time. The other is that it's a lot harder to semi-intentionally oversleep and miss a class when you know that you need to be at school for 3 other classes that day anyway.
A class by class breakdown, for anyone who cares.
First is Communications 101, AKA Public Speaking
The professor is definitely charismatic, a good trait for a communications professor. The grade is based on 5 speeches, quizzes, class participation, and 2 exams (midterm and final). I am a little worried about filling time constraints for the speeches, but I suppose I'll just cross that bridge when I come to it.
My second class for the day is English 112, AKA Persuasive Writing
That professor is quirky, but definitely in a good way (so far, don't hold me to this opinion for the rest of the semester
). This class will be difficult, since the biggest parts of the final grade are two 6-8 page papers, and I am not a particularly verbose writer. But at the same time, the in class parts of the course should be pretty easy and it seems like it'll be fun at the very least.
Third class is Math 111, College Algebra
My prof is the quintessential image of a math dork. Slightly chubby, crazy hair, thick glasses, awkward. Well, I guess that describes me, too, but I am at least a little less awkward than this guy. He solves equations in a really unusual manner, too. For example, he solves x-1=10 by "moving the -1 across the equals sign and switching its value to positive one when it crosses the ="... I think it's a lot easier to just write the shit out vertically.
My final class is Economics 101
The professor is 70 years old (he said that at the beginning of class) and hates to wear his hearing aids (said that immediately after mentioning his age), which means that I will probably need to shout any time I have a question. He also likes to yell "YOU SHOULD BE WRITING THIS DOWN" or "WRITE THIS DOWN, IT'S IMPORTANT" which I am rather tired of already, a sad state of affairs on the first day.
So, overall, I am mostly excited about this semester.
