At work today, I had come to the point in the project that I am working on where I had finally gotten to the point where the basic skeleton of the interface was finished, and now I had the lovely task of kicking out about 400 almost identical graphical buttons, one after the other

The guy that shares my dark little dungeon was equally silent for quite some time, clicking away on some monotonous task of his own. No music was playing, and I dont know how long it had been since it had stopped. I hadnt noticed when it did, kind of like when a headache goes away you just suddenly notice that its gone.

oh, thats so sad. He said.

I didnt know what he was talking about yet, as I was busily kicking out button after button in a monotonous machine motion I had developed over the previous two hours of

I think it took me a few seconds to register that hed said something, and I just kinda muttered outside of my trance

He had been checking out the various news websites, and tripped across the story from parliament that hit today.

Its sad, this same sex marriage thing. He replied.

I guess the Canadian government finally passed the legislation today to legalize same sex marriage. I stopped my click click type change cut paste export for a moment and turned around in my chair to look over at his corner.

huh?

its just sad. He says.

It kinda bothered me that I suddenly realized that he was on that side of the camp. I guess I reacted.

I think all marriage should be illegal I said. Then I lied: I have a bunch of gay friends, and most of them that are in relationships are way happier and way more committed than any of the jaded divorced straight people that are in my life.. he didnt say anything to that.

yeah I continued, I think all marriage should simply be banned. That would solve everybodys problems.

I turned back to my screen,

No idea where that came from, but I shut up after that. wooooooeee can you say jaded? I dont think I really am I think that was more of a knee jerk reaction to somebody dissing the idea of same sex marriage. I mean, why not? If two people are totally in love and committed, who cares if they happen to be two men or two women?

Luckly, he took it as just another pica moment with my warped sense of humour, and he turned after a moment and smiled at my deadpan.

Nonetheless, YAY CANADA! Its little moments like that that remind me of why I am happy to live in this country.
