THANK YOU everybody for my birthday wishes!
Admittedly, its a bit strange this year not having anybody around from all the birthdays past, but its funny how things work out sometimes: I never would have thought back in July when I joined this site that I would have met anybody through SG, never mind such a large group of people that totally rawk. bok
Thank you guys!

I finally finished the cleaning frenzy of the bedroom yesterday, just in time to meet up with Trish down at The Morrisey. It was a pretty quiet evening as she had to leave relatively early, but its always so great to see her. Its rare that we get chances to hang out, but I sure do cherish them when they come.
It absolutely sucks that she was out of my life for so many years, but I certainly learned a lesson from that experience, in many, many ways.

I walked her to the bus at around 10:30, and I stopped off at Bosmans Motor inn on the way home.
I felt a little funny walking in there with two wrapped packages. One was obviously a bottle of wine, it was wrapped in a gold foil bag with a red bow tied around the neck. The other was a box about the size of a shoebox, covered in Happy Birthday wrappings with a card taped to it.

I sat down alone at a table, placed my gifts on the cushions beside me andordered a pint of Trad. I suddenly noticed that walking alone into a pub with presents seems to garner attention, as I glanced around the crowd, I noticed the eyes of many tables glancing back in my direction. The waitress delivered my pint, and I tried really hard to not look as uncomfortable as I suddenly felt. Eventually the three people sitting at the table beside me asked me if I had been stood up.
They thought I must have been waiting for somebody to join me so that I could give them my presents. Heh. No.
There was a large group of people on the other side of the bar that were celebrating some guys birthday. His was also actually today, but they picked a Saturday night to celebrate.
There was a potential there for me to look at that crowd, and look at me sitting by myself at a table and fly with that into some dark cloud, but you know?

Not a chance.
Actually I just kinda smiled inside.

me too I thought, thinking about my own birthday thing happening today. I didnt for a second get down about it, cuz I was completely aware of you all out there.

Oh man that felt good waking up to my bedroom today. It even SOUNDS different in there now. I guess all that crap was absorbing all the soundwaves?

I actually cant believe how much better I feel in here due to that cleaning frenzy, and I also cant believe how bloody long it actually took to do it. Most of the day, really.

I guess if you really knew what I was dealing with, that would make so much more sense so here
(cover your eyes if you have a squeamish stomach. The following images are graphic and may not be suitable for all viewers)

A before pic:

Yes, I did end up throwing most of those books into the recycling bin. That was tough, but I mean really. Just because I spent $120.00 on the hardcover 1200 page version of Windows NT Unleashed doesnt mean I had to keep it around.
I probably threw out close to $2000.00 of IT books yesterday, because they are all to do with operating systems or software versions that are completely obsolete.

I triple bleached the floors, then hit them with a final whammy of murphys oil soap.
Eventually, I ended up completely removing the barrier to what was the closet:

Now, however, it feels like its only just begun. I want to totally create a new sanctuary in there.

Once the wall around the closet was gone, I mustered the courage to open the door wider.
I dont know who designed that closet, but its a really stupid idea. There are two metal bars on which to hang your clothing, and the closet goes back about 7 feet. Its only around 3 feet wide though, so its quite difficult to get to the back. They installed the two bars not lengthwise, but across. Therefore, there is one bar right inside the door which I used to hang all my stuff on and then another bar about 3 feet behind that which we would put all the other clothing that we never wore. 3 feet behind that is the back wall of the closet.

I slid the clothing that was hanging on the first bar out of the way, revealing the clothes hanging on the second rack. With the blinds on the bedroom window actually being pulled open for the first time in months, I could see quite well with the sunlight flooding the room, and my eye caught the corner of a canvas leaning against the wall at the very back of the closet.
?

Oh my god.. what the?
I pulled the clothing back farther, and expected to hear that soundtrack from the shower scene in psycho playing when I revealed the self portrait that she had painted of herself so many years ago. It had been peering at the bed through the clothing all these months.. years.

I dont know what to do with it. I would like to give it back to her, but of course she has gone off on this never contact me thing. I sure dont want it around, but it is still too disrespectful for me to throw it out.
Anyways, that was a creepy find.
