I have a friend who uses the parental controls on his TV. Ok so that is not all that odd, but he is in his late 20s lives alone, and has no children. This had a way of peaking my interest. That he would in a way, censor his own TV from certain shows or channels. He then explained that the channels he locks out are predominantly religious programming. I thought about what would happen if parents would do the same. Would there be a child talking out in the school yard about how he cant watch the 700 club or something like that and make plans to go to a friends house to watch the channel because its not locked out by his friends parents. What would be the situation if his friends parents were diehard Christians or Catholic or fundamentalist something or others? Would they, be appalled by the boys parents censoring religious programming? Would they be in such a huff that they would call his parents and talk to them about abusing the parental controls, or would they be open enough to see that the parents are raising their kids without religion, or in an atheist or agnostic setting, and that is perfectly fine. What would be the impact on a child who had TV channels filled with religious content, locked, while news, movies, educational channels such as TLC, and The National Geographic were fair game. What would happen when the child is exposed to war on the news, swearing on HBO, and evolution on TLC? Would it be so bad to keep the child from fearing damnation, and knowing the word of god or good news?
