My son was gone for three weeks over the holiday break. This was the first weekend I've had with him since then, so we did our Christmas this morning. Nothing fancy or anything, just opened gifts and watched TV.

He got some clothes, a cute Spongebob and Patrick Show thing that has them telling jokes back and forth and singing, a dump truck, and a huge stocking filled with random things.

A little about these stockings. My grandmother knits them, and they really are large. Right around three feet tall, and stretches to be large enough in diameter to hold a football (this is pure conjecture on my part; I'm a computer geek, and probably play sports just as often as John Madden writes Perl code).

Everyone knows that kids, for whatever reason, have their favorite toys, and they usually aren't the ones you think they are going to be. My son's favorite toy this year was a pair of kids' scissors he got in his stocking. He has kept them with him all day, and nearly cried when I told him he couldn't sleep with them.

He's tried to cut everything. The ribbon from one of his packages is cut into neat one inch lengths, and he did more to the wrapping paper than my roommate's shredder does on my old receipts.

It's great having him around, even if it's only for the weekend. I missed him a lot over the break. Three weeks is a long time to go without seeing your child, even though my ex didn't really think so. Until, of course, I asked if I got to take him for three weeks next year. She was pretty quiet after that.

He's asleep now. I'm going to clean up these pieces of ribbon and the wrapping paper, and then I'm going to hit the hay as well.

Sweet Dreams all.
