Recently I was inspired by the beautiful @magnea to visit my local Korean grocery H Mart and, knowing how overwhelming the selection of uncommon products would be, I did some research on things I should go out of my way to try. One of the main things I wanted to try to experience more of was the huge selection of packaged Ramen/Noodles that Asian grocery stores carry. Enter Laksa La Mian (shown below), which was rated #1 overall for taste and quality on one website dedicated to rating packaged Ramen/Noodles.
I must say, I was not dissappointed in the least. First off though, I will say that the noodle soup was a little pricier than I expected coming in at around $12 for a 4 pack. However, after preparing the soup I can confirm that the package is correct is stating that 1 pack is easily two servings. So the price-point is just a little under $2 per serving which is not too bad.
I prepared as described on the package which took about 10 minutes total, but I did add a shot of sriracha and katsuo sauce, a few sauteed shrimp, and some veggies (cilantro, green onions, and jalapeno) to jazz it up a bit. What I ended up with was a rich broth that had a milky thickness from the coconut based spice packet included in the package. This let the flavors linger on my tongue and envelop the thick noodles as I chewed the noodles up.
Even though I haven't ventured too far beyond the traditional Cup of Soup type Maruchen brand Ramen that would come to most Americans minds when thinking of packaged noodle soups, I can firmly agree that Laksa La Mian is a great noodle soup to try and I am glad that I have three more packages to go. Strongly, recommend trying to find this in your area if you can (it can be found on Amazon too but is pretty pricey there).
Below is a prepared picture of the leftover portion I had because I was too quick to gobble down the initial portion and forgot to take a picture.
As I'm somewhat new to the ramen/noodle game let me know if there are others that I should try to get my hands on as I love trying new foods. PHOZ out....
