Marketing 101 or how to turn a $2 donation into a $1500 profit by Bob Mares.
About two months ago I was flying around on my mountain bike and was at an intersection full of a high school age soccor girls holding signs for a carwash. As I was crossing the intersection one of them yells out "hey we wash bikes too!" Now I do high school senior portraits and most of my cliental is in the 16-20 year old age bracket so my mind said money making networking time. So I stopped and they washed my bike for a $2 donation, I never told them I was a photographer till one of them asked why I have the Hooters logo on my bike frame, so it was then that I told them I was the photographer for the New Mexico Hooters, in the mean time I passed out cards to the parents and girls and told them to check out my website for senior portraits. So out of 8 girls I did 4 of their senior pictures! Some are scheduled for summer photo shoots and one parent booked me for a backyard wedding in July. So not bad for a small $2 donation!
Speaking of mountain bikes I am now using it as much as I can for traveling in town and I am averaging about 15 miles a day,rain or shine, just like I used to back in the day.It"s an adventure riding a bike in an urban enviorment and you see some crazy shit, also you risk nearly getting killed several times a week, but ive been bike riding and bike racing since high school so I'm not going to stop anytime soon. You just need to assume 100% of the people in vehicles don't see you and you will survive.Those helmets bike riders use don't help much when a 2000 lb car hits your ass!
