Middle of the week = Middle of the road... Mmm, not exactly. I feel kinda perky tonight.
Is there anything better than hanging out at the pub when you're feeling bummed out, and people-watching with a good drink in you? I think not... Okay there are many things better than that but very few you can do alone
So that's where I hung out this afternoon- Just sat in the pub opposite the art school and drew oodles of cute girls who came in- attempting to be inconspicuous. There's something to be said for drawing liek that> Like it forces you to take in someone's features in a very odd way, you're more alert of what you can take in witha glance because you don't want to get caught staring at them like a loony- no matter how much the temptation to do so might be there.
There's just this big emphasis on drawing as a medium with this art school (Duncan Of Jordanstone, Dundee, Scotland) and I can see why- But sometimes I wish to God I could just sail in on the basis of my photography which I'm a lot more ballsy and confident about and really have honed to a point where I'm like 'yeah, I kick ass- i know how to take a photograph, I know how to express myself with this' whereas my drawing tends to pale in comparison to Iain's and maybe that's why he's reluctant to do anything artistic while I'm around - he doesn't want me to feel out of my depth or something, which is sweet...
So I come home and he's listening to more 45's he bought at Groucho's record store (shameless plugging, but I don't care) in one of his deep and meaningful conversational moods- going on about how the very nature of music has changed and that he hates how nobody makes mixer-tapes anymore, and that gotr me thinking-
It's true, nobody DOES make mixertapes- people will burn CDs for you, and that, somehow, just isnt the same- feel free to agree or disagree anyone who reads this- but theres something soemwhat more appropriate about teh appearance of a boxy looking cassette to the 'mixer' than a shiny CD in a jewel case.
They have more personaltity somehow- and face it, you cant put a secret track at the end of a burnt CD mixer...
So he's doing God know swhat- I think he IS starting to find me getting under his feet a little and that's the last thing I want to do. We're not exactly living in a BIG apartment here...
Anyways- tonight holds who knows what- I am in the mood to soak in the tub for a long, long time, maybe with my Discman on- just get a little me time...
Oh, and for the record- I think everyone in North America should be introduced to the concept of the 'Chip Buttie'
