who are we?

i just saw somethin on the news here that really kinda confused and frustrated me.

as some of you know i'm here in the kansas city area stationed at ft. leavenworth. i'm in the army and have been for the past almost 10 years. yeah, 10 years...wow, where does the time go. anyway, during these past years, i've been all across this country for one reason or another, i've spent some time over seas in other countries and some of that time was spent in combat in iraq. i'm not talkin about i was there in some big palace with highspeed internet, working plumbing, air conditioning and such....when i say combat, i mean combat. almost every day for a year i was getting shot at in one form or another. i spent about 9 or the 12 months in busted ass tents infested with mosquitos and sand flies. i endured 120 degree heat in the shade and i had sand in places i didn't even know existed...let alone that sand could get in there. on top of all this....one of my best friends ever in life was killed the day before his birthday. but i digress...

i saw this story about the "minutemen: civil defense corps" these guys are set up for border patrol but up through the midwest they're goin around looking for anyone that might seem or look "illegal". if they spot someone, then they report it. now don't get me wrong, i'm all about rules, regulations and the law. but let me tell ya what for someone to feel justified and right to go around looking for people they feel are out of place is just nowhere near what i feel is right. all too often these days we hear people cryin and bitching about all these illegals comin over the borders and takin our jobs, our healthcare, our whatever else.....nobody alive today is old enough to remember in their own minds what america was truly founded on. america was basically founded on the principal that anyone can come here and try to make their lives better without being persecuted or descriminated against. there's but a small handful of people around these days that can claim the right to call themselves "real" americans. and i'm pretty sure you all know who i'm talkin about. yep, that's right...them damn dirty injuns. WHATEVER!!!! they were here first damnit. if anyone has a right to get pissed at anybody, it should be them. we should be the ones living on reservations. we should be the ones people always make jokes about. blah blah blah..........you know what i'm tryin to say.

it just pisses me off so bad that all the rights that me and my Soliders fight to uphold and protect get so bent and twisted. i believe that human rights came before constitutional ones. i believe that everyone has a basic human right to go where they want and to be able and try to do what they can to make a living for themselves and their families. how can any one group of people think they can govern and control any other group of people? how can someone feel they are right just because they were born in a certain place? ESPECIALLY how can anyone possibly think they're right just because they believe a certain way and others don't? yeah, that's right....now i'm talkin bout religion.

believe me, i'm all for religion. i think it serves its purpose....ultimately. overall though, i think it's nothing more than fanaticism. yep, that's right...in my mind, most organized religions are nothing more than cults. fanatics with opinions that try and make everyone else believe the same way they do. if a color blind person tells you something is red and you see it as green....who's right? you see it as green, but the color blind person is positive it's red. you'll never be able to convince them otherwise, and you'd be wrong for trying. same thing for religious issues. at least in my own humble opinion. all that crap about god won't give someone more than they can handle.....then how come suicide happens all the time? because people can't handle what they've been given. that's usually when the fanatics come back with...well they didn't believe in god. do i have to believe in something to make it real? what if i don't believe in the internet? does that mean that it no longer exists??? somehow, i don't think that's how it works. god and religion are great things for folks to have faith in and believe in......just not me.

all in all, i just want to know how we as "americans" as a whole can think clearly and feel comfortable in the fact that this is "our land". c'mon now folks...not many of us out there can say that and if be true.

anyway, i think this blathering has come to an end. i'm a soldier and love serving my country. but that doesn't mean i have to like the decisions that are made or the people making those decisions. i just serve in the hope that perhaps some day it will actually be better and all the sweat and blood that has been lost will be worth it.

please feel free to comment, but don't try and leave some huge philosophical debate thing. if you wish to engage in those types of actions, just drop me a message and i'll be happy to oblige.
