Thank you to everyone who has clicked that lil heart next to my latest set with @Tripodski, "Better and brighter than before" - I am honestly soooo amazed by all the love so far! So a few people have asked where the title came from and here's an opportunity to give a bit of background on that (I'll try not to go on for too long!)
Some of you may know I'm a huge X-men fan and I also think Chris Claremont (who was heavily involved in the earlier Uncanny X-men days) is somewhat of a legend. He was the longest serving writer for the series. I particularly loved the Dark Phoenix saga and Jean Grey's character (so much so that it contributed half the reason to choose Phianixx as my sg name, as well as Fawkes from Harry Potter).
There is a quote from Phoenix (Rachel Summers) in Excalibur, another series by Chris, "You forget, fuzzy elf … I'm Phoenix. If I die it's only to be reborn - hopefully better and brighter than before."
I love this line. It reminds me of my struggles in life, of almost failing, of wanting to give up so many times. But every time something has kept me going, be that friends, family, music, a community such as SG... and I've come back stronger than ever. Better and brighter than before, in fact. I think it's really important to remind ourselves of how resilient we are, of how far we have come and that it could always be a damn sight worse than what we might be experiencing (not taking away the fact that awful things happen).
I'm very proud of how much I've learnt and grown over the years and I'll keep striving for better. I'll keep finding ways to improve and continue to lookout for others as I'm a very compassionate person too. Anyway, I did go on but hopefully it's nicer to know where the name for the set came from and words I like to live by!
