Well, I'm just gearing up to head over to Vancouver to see Seu Jorge & Almaz this evening. Their self titled album just came out on Stonesthrow/Now - Again Records The sound could maybe be described as psychedelic-samba meets chicha meets soul. Perfect for listening to on a hot summer night in the city, before you go out to the clubs or house or block party.
If you like Hip-Hop with no bullshit, no auto-tune, made on older equipment, just 2 guys and a DJ, a mic, some decks and recording equipment, done straight out the living room but sounds pro, please, give my boys Reigs, Raja and Dundidit aka DRLCTS, a listen. They recorded this wonderful album "No When It Counts" over the last few months here in Victoria as a way to both express themselves musically and as a way to cope with deep personal tragedy and the changes that come with growing up. There's a lot to relate to here for everyone I think and there is a lot of fun in there too.
