It's been a busy week. The private party on Friday night went as well as such a thing could possibly go. We sang, on someone's back deck (in the Velvet Underground area, for those who knows) until well after 3:00 am, and nobody called the cops, not even when I did Take Me Out (with the volume ca-ranked). No paper slips, no bullshit, just a bunch of friends sitting around making with the sing song. Plus, I was surprised how easily the show format (cursing, immature humor, mockery) fits into the private party setting. Anyone looking to book a private toxikaraoke show should drop me a line. I believe you'll find it surprisingly affordable.

Saturday's show was pretty good too, I guess. Not too many people were out this week, probably because of the Ex and a bunch of other end-of-summer things going on in the city. I guess I should be thankful, because as soon as school's in, I'll be up to my tits in drunken assholes again.

It's been pointed out to me that I spend a lot of time bitching about the stuff that irritates me at the shows, and that someone might think I don't like the job. Anyone that comes out to the show (most nights) would be able to tell that I do enjoy the show, and mostly have a good time, but it's really kind of a complex thing- I mean, I'm doing something I believe is a little different than the other lame shows you've seen, and it's not everyone's cup of tea, so it's kind of an ongoing experiment, the results for which fall entirely on my shoulders. Sometimes I feel discouraged and want to pack it in, and sometimes I'm an unstoppable comedy-and-singing machine that can do no wrong. I've got to deal with the challenges of a (bush league) singer, and the challenges of a (mediocre) comic while having to deal with the random variables introduced by the public, who also gets a microphone. When I bomb, I bomb as hard as anyone else. But when I kill, it's my hope that it lasts a little longer than a regular karaoke show would. I mean, if someone could actually remember their favorite lines or favorite numbers- if any of this actually lasted beyond the end of the night- I think that might just be enough for me to keep the experiment going.

This Monday night (tomorrow, in fact) at the Unicorn, faithful listeners. I believe it's Laura's last karaoke night. Be there, or choke on a dick.

And believe me... it was greatly, greatly appreciated. Many laughs were had by all.
