People always View the 50's as the height of Bacwardsness, and that the years prior were stagnent, Boring places.

Thats really not true you know.

I can't speak for the US, but Europe was more laid back, more Liberal and less prudish in the 1910's than it is now.

The problem, I suppose relates to media. There was no Media to reflect the opinions and Cultures of the Prole's.
It's just odd that most people have a arped view of th past.

Annyway,

The Music in the 1950's really sucke.
The first music charts came in the 1950's (Thank you NME!), and the first Number one record in the UK was a guy called Al Martino with a cong called 'here in my heart', and I've been listening to it on repeat now for about 15 minutes. it kinda grows on you.

Here in my heart I'm alone, I'm so lonely
Here in my heart I just yearn for you only
Here in my arms I long to hold you
Hold you so near, ever close to my heart
So, darling

Say that you care, take these arms I give gladly
Surely you know I need your love so badly
Here is my heart, my life, and my all, dear
Please be mine and stay here in my heart

Say that you care, take these arms I give gladly
Surely you know I need your love so badly
Here is my heart, my life, and my all, dear
Please be mine and stay here in my heart

Isn't that great?

I'm adding Thursday to my Favourite Suidegirls for no other reason than She left a comment (The fact that she is ridiculously attractive is just an added Bonus really).

That is the Sultanyeh Citadel, which boasts the biggest brick dome in the whole world, and the yanks are going to Bomb it soon, because it's in Iran, and there is a shitload of Oil in Iran.

The Question has been posed before, Should Voting be Compulsury, for the sake of god, I hope that never happens in America;

Seventy per cent of Americans cannot name their senators or their congressman. Forty-nine per cent believe that the President has the power to suspend the Constitution. Only about thirty per cent name an issue when they explain why they voted the way they did, and only a fifth hold consistent opinions on issues over time. Rephrasing poll questions reveals that many people dont understand the issues that they have just offered an opinion on.

I bought 100 SG stickers.. 'm going to Stick them to Various Landmarks throughout Dublin, and other major Public Places. Could be cool. biggrin

No work today, so I stayed in bed till 3.. I do believe I am the laziest fecker in the world.

If you're correct in believing there was no media to reflect the views of the masses in the 1910s, how can you say with any certainty that they were more laid back and less prudish?

Ophelia,

Ahhh.. that is because of what we do have. for examples we have the 1920's, the post world war 1 age when the the godless brazen-ness of the proles became intolerable for the British Royals.
We have Accounts of the 'uneducated' areas written by professors and scholars who tell of large amounts of drinking and Sex.

There is actually loads of information on this, but no Televison pictures to show it.

Of course, as well, there was the Bohemian area in France. smile
