Every 8th of February Slovenian people celebrate Prešeren day, day of culture.
France Prešeren (1800-1848) was a great Slovenian national poet, one of the first ones who “rose” our language on a higher level by writing more complex songs. He is also the author of the Slovenian national anthem. So on 8th of February we celebrate and remember the importance of culture.
It was established in 1945 to raise the cultural consciousness and the self-confidence of the Slovene nation, and declared a work-free day in 1991, so everything is closed today.On February 7, the eve of the holiday, the Prešeren Awards and the Prešeren Fund Awards, the highest Slovenian recognitions for cultural achievements, are conferred, it is also supposedly the biggest party night in Slovenia.
A TOAST
France Prešeren
God's blessing on all nations,
Who long and work for that bright day,
When o'er earth's habitations
No war, no strife shall hold its sway;
Who long to see
That all men free
No more shall foes, but neighbours be.
Happy Prešeren day to you, dear reader as well!! Let us take this day and remember of your culture, what it means to you and to your nation! 📚
