Another week down and what a week indeed. The past month has been one where it felt like I was going the entire time, something always planned, something always to do. This morning has been my first in a month to wake up without a friend sleeping on my couch or myself sleeping on a friends couch. So of course it seems quite slow, subdued, and slightly uncomfortable without the presence of another person.
Megze is now in Boston after 3 days of travel. I drove halfway with her, to Chicago, stopping in Omaha to hangout with her Cousin and to see Why? at the Waiting Room. It was a great time all the way around (I highly recommend seeing this band) and we left promptly the next morning for Chicago. The drive (for us) was easy over all and I was able to introduce Megze to Steak 'n Shake.
To note, a Miata although a fantastic 'go cart', its not ideal to make a cross country move in. However, it did prove useful in maintaining 80+ average MPH.
From Chicago I stayed with a friend I had only met a month prior and continued the most enjoyable voyage of my week. The first night we simply grabbed some food and beers near her home, conversing all the while. The next night we made it to the Hideout and enjoyed the presentation of 9 short films from the Film Brigade, if you live in Chicago I recommend checking it out. I felt short sighted not having booked my return ticket Saturday, as I left Chicago my visit seemed condensed and maybe a little cut short as I scrambled to finish work then catch the train to the airport. Though as things do, it's not as much being short sighted as it is being patient for the reveal.
I was on the train with 40 minutes to walk from the train, get my ticket, go through security, and board the plane before it was scheduled to leave the gate. Fetching my ticket, the lady at the counter told me I'd make it though not elaborating on how. After getting through security and to the gate it was apparent the arriving plane was running behind a few minutes. In all I made it to the gate with 3 minutes to spare.
The friend who was supposed to originally pick me up at the airport in Denver made other plans, so I was stuck finding someone else that Friday prior to my flight. Another friend had been throwing around a time for which we could brainstorm an idea for a new web site which he had birthed over the past few weeks. Turns out he was able to pick me up and we spent the next 20 hours brainstorming this idea, of which being fairly complex we made good headway.
All in all the week had the feeling like it never stopped; never took a moment to breathe or to rethink its path, even though I might have. I think the most sleep I was able to claim over the week was roughly 6 hours (usually less) before I was up and going again, working, driving or what have you. After the discussion of ideas my friend continued on his weekend and I found myself napping, which then turned into a 13 hour marathon.
It was all earned.
