Right. I believe it.
First:
If you haven't seen the Star Trek flick yet, get off your ass and go see it. Ridiculously good.
Second:
Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment is pretty much a great example of how horribly dumb most people are. I'm watching the second episode, and they've already ignored the survival training they received, packed 60 pound packs (For a MONTH LONG TRIP!!), and soaked their feet in 35 degree water.
Idiots.
It's amazing how when surrounded by people and under the careful observation of cameras, we tend to hide our weaknesses at the expense of our safety. Even a sense of personal survival didn't penetrate this group of nimwits.
Of course, I could exhibit the same behavior tomorrow on my first hike ever. If I have this right, we're doing 7 miles or so. Even something that short carries a weight of caution, something these people seem to ignore.
Here's to Darwin's theory.
