Haha, Ren fairs are pretty scary like that. I work with a ton of folks that do the whole gamut of loopy crap: Ren fairs (which are alright in themselves, but...), RP gaming (like pen & paper variety), LARPing (?!?), etc. So altogether, these people only live in a fantasy world or at work. My darling, Draciav, used to be in the Army and I remember all the crap he had to go through. It's the same shit: they're nice to you to get you to enlist, then the rug comes out from under you and you're treated like a pice o' poo for the next 3+ years. Just hope that you don't get injured and need surgery. Military medicine is some scary shit, even at Walter Reid, where the Pres. supposedly goes.

3. There's no reason that the original agreement shouldn't go through just beacuse you aren't friends anymore. Just move up the deadline on the decision. No matter what, that's a lot of fundage to just let some dude keep because he's grumpy over you talking to his ex.
4. If you're this worried about lawsuits, then make sure you always have at least one other person with you when you call him/talk to him in person, and better yet, communicate in ways that allow you to retain documentation. Email, or even a certified letter can be retained for your records.
