glenn is letting me have my "last moments" with my computer before we move it to our new place, where i won't have internet for a WHOLE WEEK. internet OR tv. i guess i'm going to get a WHOLE LOT of reading done. and painting and organizing furniture at the new place. between te two of us, glenn and i have enough stuff to stock a small department store.
kevin, mechelle, dan, john allen [all from the warhol] and mala, my newly ex-roommate all helped me move, and then we went out and jointly ate more sushi than i've ever seen in my life. my friends are amazing and i looooove them.
i'm really excited for pantyraid on friday. it's going to be toootally sweet. i hope i'll be able to find an outfit in the mess of my new apt by then.
oh! and this: [i'm copying it.]
glenn and i found a little baby cardinal sitting near the driveway this morning. i thought it had fallen out of the nest and would be eaten by a cat, so i called the wildlife conservancy and they told me that if i couldn't get it back in the nest, i ought to fashion a makeshift nest out of a bowl-type thing with holes in the bottom and some tissue, put the bird back in it and put it as close to the nest as possible. the parents will continue to take care of it. apparently, birds can't smell, so they won't reject a handled baby bird.
when glenn and i tried to catch the bird to put it in the nest, not only did it sort of halfway fly away, the mommy and daddy cardinal swooped down and flew all around it to protect it. i called back the wildlife conservancy and they told me that birds generally live for 2 weeks on the ground before they learn to fly and their parents still feed and protect it while teaching it all the adult bird stuff. they said it was really good the mommy and daddy birds were so attentive and that everything was fine.
isn't that the cutest??

despite my keen sense of smell, i try to reject as few handheld baby birds as possible.

That's so cool that you did what you could to help a baby bird.
Go you!
