Lately, all I seem to want to do is play Final Fantasy III. I haven't recorded a song in weeks and weeks... I believe I am now officially in a rut.

I honestly can't remember the last time I did anything I would call interesting that didn't involve drugs or alcohol. That doesn't seem healthy, but what the fuck else is there to do in a city like Madison? At best, I could find some scene to cling to, but where does that get me?

Maybe I should become a fundamentalist Christian. They seem highly motivated.

I dug your Replacements mention in the music boards. They were one of my favorite live bands in the 80's. So what if most people don't consider them "punk"? Most people now have a pretty inaccurate perception of what punk was and is, which is why I only wax nostalgic on the subject 99% of the time.
Even during the 'mats' close brush with big-time success, they carried the true punk spirit better than most of their peers, and it took it's toll. Great fucking band! Cheers.

- edited for a misspell. I'm one of those annoying perfectionists.

Well, I missed my chance to buy ...Earwhig! and ...Titus cheap... in a store, anyway. There's always half.com and eBay.
At least the Art Ensemble album wasn't another lame blow-by-the-numbers jazz album. It is, conversely, something new to me. Maybe I ask too much of jazz albums, that they be exciting and new every time out of the box. I ask less of rock and roll... but then, rock and roll is king.
As for that punk Thread (sigh)... I felt it would be fruitless to explain to all how I felt, but for a treat (or whatever) for you, I will write here what I thought about writing there:

Music style labels are an illusion, since the only artists that stay firmly within boundaries are neither innovators nor worth listening to at length. A truly punk band does the unexpected, especially concerning the "rules of punk."
However, if there is an assumed accepted punk style, an intersection of sloppy/ aggressive hard rock with nasty attitude, I'd say The Electric Eels invented it, since they were doing it in 1974, or earlier. Yeahyeahyeah, Monks MC5 Stooges Velvet garage Link Wray.... blahblahblah... this stuff isn't an exact science. It's opinion. I have yet to see someone agree with my opinion that the Electric Eels were The First Punk Band. I've accepted this, since 1) as I said, labels are an illusion or worthless, 2) I know I'm right!
