My dad sent me an e-mail just to tell me that XTC (the band) was in the New York Times crossword puzzle, presumably because he knows I like them a lot.

For some reason, I find that very very funny. biggrin

your dad is cool; my mom thinks i'm still 12 and listen to korn. the other day she was telling me that i can have her old records when i start listening to real music.
pharaoh:
the disc is on it's way!

i too love Califone, but RRM is better in my opinion. don't worry about returning the favor... it's my pleasure.

have you ever seen "Slackers" (not to be confused with "Slacker"), starring the older Pete from Pete & Pete? it's pretty brainless, but insanely funny.

Never heard that one; just have the old classic Harrison/ Robinson/ other-guy album. My fave Richman song is-- either "Girlfren" or "She Cracked" or "Old World."

Bunny Gets Paid!!! it's awesome. if you want, i can burn you a copy.

I am in a ridiculously good mood today, especially considering I spent a lot of last night being the fifth wheel. Could it be that my roommate pointed out this cute girl I met, erm, "checking me out" when I wasn't looking? Probably not, because that happens all the fucking time. Yes, I am that cool. YES I AM, SHUT UP.

Actually, I think it...

i always wanted to go to art school, just to form a band and then drop out. just like all the guys from the 80's 'college rock' bands did.

Lately, all I seem to want to do is play Final Fantasy III. I haven't recorded a song in weeks and weeks... I believe I am now officially in a rut.

I honestly can't remember the last time I did anything I would call interesting that didn't involve drugs or alcohol. That doesn't seem healthy, but what the fuck else is there to do in...

I dug your Replacements mention in the music boards. They were one of my favorite live bands in the 80's. So what if most people don't consider them "punk"? Most people now have a pretty inaccurate perception of what punk was and is, which is why I only wax nostalgic on the subject 99% of the time.
Even during the 'mats' close brush with big-time success, they carried the true punk spirit better than most of their peers, and it took it's toll. Great fucking band! Cheers.

Well, I missed my chance to buy ...Earwhig! and ...Titus cheap... in a store, anyway. There's always half.com and eBay.
At least the Art Ensemble album wasn't another lame blow-by-the-numbers jazz album. It is, conversely, something new to me. Maybe I ask too much of jazz albums, that they be exciting and new every time out of the box. I ask less of rock and roll... but then, rock and roll is king.
As for that punk Thread (sigh)... I felt it would be fruitless to explain to all how I felt, but for a treat (or whatever) for you, I will write here what I thought about writing there:

Music style labels are an illusion, since the only artists that stay firmly within boundaries are neither innovators nor worth listening to at length. A truly punk band does the unexpected, especially concerning the "rules of punk."
However, if there is an assumed accepted punk style, an intersection of sloppy/ aggressive hard rock with nasty attitude, I'd say The Electric Eels invented it, since they were doing it in 1974, or earlier. Yeahyeahyeah, Monks MC5 Stooges Velvet garage Link Wray.... blahblahblah... this stuff isn't an exact science. It's opinion. I have yet to see someone agree with my opinion that the Electric Eels were The First Punk Band. I've accepted this, since 1) as I said, labels are an illusion or worthless, 2) I know I'm right!

I've recently come to realize that my awkwardness around people is INCREASED, not lessened, by alcohol. I get more stuttery, less charismatic, I can't think of a goddamn thing to talk about... I probably spit when I talk too, though I'm not aware of it.

This seems unfair to me. I demand my money back.

Of course, maybe I'm just a big weirdo, and it...

Actually, I am cooler than him, but only by a little bit. And I, too, have become lazy with journal.

I just caught myself practicing dancing for a party that's coming up on Saturday.

I'm such a nerd. Good God.
hanoibomb:
Ungrateful? What are you talking about? I've enjoyed SXSW since its conception, and allways ask my out of state friends to check it out. If you got the time, you should check it out, too. I'll give you a plus for the Mott in your favorite bands section. Now quiet down, juinor. wink
lorelei:
yes the kinks are just in a league of their own.
