Todayt is the second half of a series of short essays on Indiana.
Indiana what is it good for?
I've lived in Indiana all of my life. I to this day cannot think of a single good, product, service, or company, that is majorily famous that is from Indiana. Sure we have corn. But what state is known as the corn state? Hint: its not Indiana.
I've come to the conclusion that as far as careers are concerned there are basically a select few of jobs you can truely persue in Indiana. They mainly comprise of factory work, real estate agent, and bank teller.
In my last essay I presented that Indiana had a lot of bars, churches, and gas stations. What I held of to mention in this essay is small town Indiana has a lot of banks, and real estate agenencies..
As far as small towns go here the typical job for a man is some how involved in a factory, which mostly likely automotive, or heavy industry. The typical job for a woman is some how connected to the banking (or insurance), and real estate world.
Don't confuse that since a small town in Indiana has a factory and places of businesses that it has industry. You'll likely not find many media outlets, technology outfits, or anything else that is not some how interconnected with either factory work or with real estate or banking work.
I believe the reason for sucess in real estate in these small towns is that a) people are moving out faster than moving in. b) factories have high turn over and families are moving back and froth between areas where there are factories.
Then you got your local businesses. This if we are speaking of small town Indiana is antique stores. It's no surprise that these businesses have a high turn over rate in such small towns because they can't afford to pay their bills in the buildings they rent in the downtown areas because surprise surprise no one is shopping there. Shoppers instead choose to drive the 40 miles to the nearest "city" where they have what is known as "the mall" to shop.
In conclusion, if you want to make a great career in a always highering turning over field of factory worker, real estate agent, or bank teller then come to small town Indiana.
