Wow, with the New Year comes oh-my-god-crazy-busy. It's tech/hell week for the current musical, this time Annie in Fremont, which runs through January. Yeah, I know. But fortunately the pit is deep and I'm way in the back, so I can't see anything, and can rarely hear anything outside of dialogue while the orchestra is not playing. Makes it easy to get some good reading done.

The orchestra is up and playing again, this time an interesting set. Rimsky-Korsakov's "Capriccio Espagnol", some violin concerto with no trombone part, and Phillip Glass' "Heroes Symphony", based on the David Bowie "Heroes" album. Most people seem to not like it, but I do. Granted, it does get outrageously repetitive at times. Repeating the same measure for several minutes, or straight quarter notes for several PAGES in a row. But still, I think it's great music.

Also playing with the San Jose Jazz Orchestra for a few gigs coming up. They asked me to sit in on the recording session, but that would make me triple booked for the day, so I said no. Oh well.

Add a random gig for a friend playing Mozart's "Requiem" in May, and the Sound of Music over the summer, and a (hopefully continually) rapidly growing private studio, and training on the bike, it looks like spare time will be a thing of the past.

Works for me.
