OK, time to write more often. The last thing I want to turn this into is some kind of lame diary with the same crap over and over again. Yes, my life is uber repetitive. But, I love it, so even wit the lack of good money, I'm not changing shit.
But still, i always feel like writing, but can never figure out what without making this a personal diary instead of a "blog". Whatever that means...
Anywho... The symphony I subbed with Tuesday night asked if I would play the whole set. I figured that might happen, I was pretty sure they are at least one trombone short of an orchestra. (hey, I like that!)
Bad things:
1. Yet another weekly night rehearsal, this one on Tuesdays in Mountain View.
2. Yet another Saturday night concert. On a weekend I once had off... Which, as we all know, off weekends are few and far between for me.
3. I would also be missing an Earthquakes home game.
Good things:
1. Networking is always good. Play the free gigs when asked, especially with people I don't know and have never played with, to increase the payed gig calls later.
2. I went to college with one of the Horn players, so it would be nice to do a show with him. Good friend of mine...
3. Great music. Aaron Copland's 3rd Symphony, the original source of his later written Fanfare for the Common Man, as well as the highlight's Suite from Bernstein's West Side Story. Both of which I've played before, and loved.
4. Mark yet another amateur south bay/peninsula symphony off the checklist. Silicon Valley, Redwood, Peninsula, Saratoga, Stanford, SJSU, and this would now add Nova Vista to that list.
5. If I don't play the next set with Redwood, which it looks like I'm NOT, then I would simply replace a Wednesday night rehearsal with a Tuesday night rehearsal.
Ya know, it looks like the goods are outweighing the bads. Still, gonna take some thought...
