Today starts the brass class.
I teach a Brass Workshop at a local high school once a week in the Spring and Summer times. And, once again, it's starting up today. I'm even almost ready! My normal partner in crime is out of town for a while, working on his Doctorate at USC, so I am on my own. That's not bad, that's actually how I started, but I still have so much to do. I have no idea exactly how much music I have to have photo-copied, so a several hour trip to Kinko's is in order for lunch.
But really, I can't wait. I absolutely love working with these kids, and working with brass choirs in general. There is nothing quite like conducting brass warm ups, chorales, fanfares, and the like. The best thing is to watch their eyes, and to see that on the spot transformation when they switch from confusion and bewilderment to realization and clarity. I've been doing this for several years now, and I still get goose bumps whenever I see it.
Well, I'm off to get cancer in front of a copy machine.
