At the heart of quantum mechanicsthe mathematical theory of the structure and behavior of atomslies a certain degree of unpredictability. As first stated by the German physicist Werner Heisenberg, the uncertainty principle says you can't simultaneously measure both the position and velocity of a particle with perfect accuracy. This means that no one can ever predict precisely the future behavior of a particle because its impossible to measure the particles current state exactly.

The uncertainty principle does not simply state that scientists dont yet have the proper equipment to measure positions and velocities: instead, the very process of performing the measurement changes those quantities. The uncertainty principle implies that space can never truly be empty. In reality, the quantum vacuum is filled with particles and antiparticles that briefly appear and then disappear just as quickly.

so the act of measering itself collapses the probability wave form, until measured particles on a quantam level arent actually anywhere, there just 'smeared' across a certain area of probability.

so, what if you had a box, with a cat in it, a vial of poisonous gas, and a small lump of radioactive material. all arranged in such a way that in a givin amount of time the radioactivity has a fifty-fifty chance of causing a leak in the vial which would let the gas loose, killing the cat. so you close up the box for that givin time and as long as it is closed the cat is neither dead nor alive inside, its existance is instead spread out in between the possibility of life and death, Since the chance of which are being decided by probablities on an atomic level, through the radiation. Until you open the box, at that exact moment, by measuring the situation you are either killing the cat or giving it life.

I always thought that story went to show how horribly ridiculous either A. quantam theory is. or B. the universe itself is, or probably C. I am, for taking it seriously
