my new home-----scratch that....the new place where i sleep at night and where i keep my shit is rather close to LAX, one of the busiest airports in the country. having lived for two years under the approach lanes of Reagan National, the noise isn't something which keeps me up at night. __what does serve that purpose, keeping me up at night i mean, is...

Welcome back.
mistress_:
Welcome to reality my friend.
When all your dreams come crashing down and you are left alone in your sorrows, what is to be done? You dream of days gone by and see no hope in the future. Yet I entreat you to move on dearest. Develop a new standard. Find another path, a road less travelled. Persevere.
It is my hope for you that you will come to the realisation that there is more to do and see and "be" and that you remember that you are not alone in your wanderings. You are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses that you have never known. Those that came before. Having gone through the same experiences and prevailing!
Persevere, hope, and heal.....

spent most of my night (saturday night, mind) writing letters to Congressmen. i've a great big stack for the post. amazing what you can do with a beat up printer, a ragged few hour's time, and a couple postage stamps with 1920s model cars on them. note: if you're writing your reps, send the letter to their district office as opposed to their DC location....

I had a very rough night's sleep last night- tried to let the cat share my bad, "share" being a sorta 90-10 split according to her...
Anyway, I kept waking up, kept not getting to sleep, eventually kicked her out of the room, and ended up having some dreams that were weird but in a not-so-bad way.

My dreams ended with a group of young people with handicaps, like MS and MD, jamming on guitars/ drums in a noisy, Sonic Youth way. They weren't in wheelchairs, but they were handicapped to the point where normal, heavily-practiced, rhythmically-regimented music of a "popular" nature would be impossible for them to play... yet they found their niche playing sloppy, aggressive music (to use two of my favorite musical properties).
When I woke up, I thought, "Wow, that'd be great in real life; if handicapped young folks looking for something to do could make some hardcore-ambient type music, like Merzbow or freakier SY and so on.

There were earlier parts of the dream that involved someone being assassinated from miles away with a blowdart gun, but that has less potential real-life application.

when i was a kid i'd wake early, yes early, on Sunday mornings for a game of checkers with my dad. amazingly, our dog had eaten an equal number of both red and black checkers, so we always started with with an equal, albeit shortened, number of 'men.' i think dad let me win a lot.

after the board game he'd get out the much...

I agree with Cheech but also memories allow you to express the love for people you couldn't at the time. They all are still with you albeit in a different situation or different state.
volkov:
my dissapointment with the inhabitants of this state comes from the passing of the texas constitutional amendment to define marriage as exclusivly heterosexual. it just seemed very not in keeping with the Texas attitude of "you live your life and I'll live mine"

I still love living here. Austin was the only town that didn't pass the amendment...

hard to imagine the AF downsizing right now. I don't know about going over to the Army. Sounds almost like you'd be better off transferring to DoD. You could be a civillian and still work on the gov't pension.

both Llayne Staley and Kurt Kobain died on 5 April, my birthday.

the song is Frogs, off of Alice in Chains's self titled album. quite possibly the most beautifully bleak, bitter and best track they ever recorded. AiC has been swirling my head for the last few days. too bad Grunge didn't last. that and the whole being dead thing for Llayne's and Kurt's part....

I remember the Cobain death day pretty well. When I got up, I put on WHFS and a band was covering "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam" and they were saying, "That's the song Kurt Cobain did blahblahetc," in these hushed tones, but I had no idea he died until I saw the noon news, which went something (in real time in my head) like this:
(note- halfway through news, at like 12:15, not at the beginning)
newsreader- "Rock singer Kurt Cobain..."
me- "Oh, jeez, what's he done now?" biggrin
newsreader- "...is dead."
me- "...." eeek shocked eeek eeek

I remember going across the street to shoot baskets with a couple of musician/ acquaintances and talkin about it that afternoon. Basically, just -shock and surprise- like everyone else.

when you're in a strange place.

when you're bleeding inside, drowning in your own red love.

when the world won't stop snapping around you like the sound of a broken guitar string.

when she's gone.

when you're gone...

all you want to do is sleep.

It's weird, but I haven't been feeling too much like drinking lately, and then got sick yesterday; I should be drinking much more often.
