Another weekend is here and this means "once more into the breech!" It's our second week of Henry V at Montford Park. I'm enjoying it but it hasn't really been the best experience for me. The show could really be so much better. I think today's review subtly speaks mountains about the show. The reviewer speaks lovingly about the all the repairs made to the amphitheater and the set, but says almost nothing about the performance except for you could hear the actors and they knew their lines. This is the paper's way of saying its bad. It doesn't really bother me, because I know the production isn't the best. What's wrong with it? *warning I'm about to speak like an egocentric actor* I'm not playing Henry V. I don't know if it's envy or jealously, but I really should be playing that role. The guy doing it is a decent actor, but his skills are really inadequate for such a commanding role. There is no subtlety in his acting it's either way too impassioned or way too mundane. I've performed with this company for five seasons, doing two shows as season, sometimes with up to three or four characters a show. I know Shakespeare; the tricks he uses to help the actor, the details the audience should get, how his language should be used. I'm really underused in the role of the Dauphin. However the thing that upsets me the most is that this guy is playing one my dream roles, and doing it badly I must say, and I'm afraid I'll never again get a chance to be Henry V. "He looks like Henry though" as the director pointed out, an how can I argue with that?
So I'm sure this glowing review will make everybody rush out to see it. However in case I haven't discouraged you, I'll plug it again:
Henry V

Come see it! You can leave at Intermission, I swear!

Would you rather be able to fly or be able to become invisible?
