I'm a Star Wars geek, so what. I enjoyed Episode III. While still not the greatest film in cannon, it achieved a level that the previous three should have started at. There were still a couple of cringe worthy bits of dialogue, but of course it's never been Shakespeare. It felt like this was a move made for adult fans. The ones who enjoy a dark movie, and find a sad ending liberating. While it's no Oedipus the King, or Macbeth, it is somewhat a tragedy for our time; a story of a hero with the potential for greatness but doomed to fail. However I think Anakin's tragic flaw needed to be more defined, and the dialogue needed to reveal more about his inner conflicts to be on the level of a Greek Tragedy. To the story's credit though, even though I knew how it was all going to end, I found myself rooting for many characters I knew were going to loose. Above all else, the lightsaber duels were hands down (no pun intended) the best of any movie, and being a Star Wars geek, that's always my favorite part.

In other theatrical business, I saw a play last night called Dirty Blonde at NC Stage Company. It's the story of Mae West as told through her and the eyes of two of her fans. It was a spectacular production, and a good story. It made me want to know more about Mae West, a woman I heard much about, but didn't really know anything about. She was quite a woman; born underprivileged, with encouragement from her parents, and great determination to succeed, she rose from the vaudeville circuit to become a superstar at the age of 39, and fell again mostly because the censors stifled her creativity, causing her edginess to mellow and forcing the studios to drop her. Most impressive were her wit, and the fact that she wrote or co-wrote almost every play and film she was in. Of course she tended to be a scene stealer.

So in lieu of a dilemma today, do some research and find a Mae West quote that appeals to you.

Here is mine:
"When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never tried before."

the duels are always the best, nerd or not. general grevious fucking rules the schools and im sorry, theres no way obiwan coulda beat him. although i guess it kinda woulda screwed up things for the later movies....i mean earlier movies....that is, the last three....awww, hell im confused....
