Happy Birthday master Shakespeare. How you've changed our lives.

Speaking of Shakespeare, I'm playing Benedick in a student directed version of Much Ado About Nothing at UNCA. The show is this Thursday at 8:30 at the Carol Belk Theatre on the UNCA campus. Also it's absolutely Free Asheville peeps are encouraged to attend. wink

So today I ventured to the mall in a quest to relieve my pockets of some of the cash that was burning a hole in them. What a scary thing. Primarily I was in search of some new footwear since the ones I am wearing look like ass, and smell only slightly better.
The American mall is the common arbitrator of American society. No where else on earth can you see so many different groups of people (notably teenage grommets) trying so hard to fit in yet look totally unique. They move in unison and are uniformed like the military. Granted the steps fall somewhere between a saunter and a frenzy, and the uniforms mainly consist of name brands clothes, strangely coiffed hair, and sparkly accessories.
The thing I hate the most about the mall is the fact that every once truly "alternative" style has been distilled, homogenized, and packaged in to chain stores lined up neatly in a row along the promenade. Every mall across the nation has these stores: Hot Topic, Pac-Sun, Buckle, A&F. Call me a cranky old man but there is something sickening in the mass marketing of Punk, Skater, Surfer, and Hip-Hop fashions. What next? I cant wait till they open up that gutter punk/crusty hippie store.
Needless to say, after traversing the mall in a disillusioned haze, I left, sans new shoes. Maybe I'll just buy them online.
