So another Asheville band has a chance at going big-time. An Asheville Citizen-Times article today said that Secret Lives of the Freemasons signed to Astro Magnetics label. Astro Magnetics is a NYC record label founded by Eyeball Records label manager Marc Debiak, his wife Daria, Eyeball owner Alex Saavedra, and Geoff Rickly from Thursday. It is a subsidiary of Bardic Records and is distributed by Bardic Records/Sony RED Distribution.
I wish I could say I was a big fan but in reality I've only seen them twice, once at a house party, and once at Vincent's Ear. They can't really play here, because most venues are 21+, and most of their fans are under 21. What little I heard of them, I liked. They're somewhere around Beloved, GlassJaw, Coheed, etc. Poppy hardcore, I think they described themselves as. I'm stoked for them though. It's always cool to see kids from your hometown get a chance at their dreams.
Of course the last local band/musician make a stab at the big-time was Drug Money.
In other news, I have regrouped from my last theatrical fiasco, and am in the stages of directing Matt & Ben for Plaeides Productions. It's a satirical look at Hollywood's "Golden Boys", Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Trust me this show is not idol worship, but a sharp-tongued, spiteful spoof of the two celebrities. It should be fun. It will go up the first weekend of February.
Finally, this girl I've been talking to recently hasn't returned my phone calls for like six days. How lame. It's alright if she's not really interested in me, but at least have the courtesy to tell me so. Not calling is such gutless way to end a relationship.
