So lots of fun stuff happened this weekend. First of all there was Interpol at the Orange Peel. The show was excellent. Even though I only own Bright Lights I enjoyed the other songs. They sounded really tight, however I've never seen a band act so cool onstage. Except for the bass player, they hardly moved around at all. I guess thats why they have such a big light show. It was sold out and really crowded. timagain was there but I didn't get to see him. Go over to his journal and check out some pics.
Next what occupied most of my time was the second annual Asheville Film Festival. Yeah I know every city nowadays has a film festival, but this one was pretty cool. I saw some crap, but a couple real good films. The best was a documentary called Searching for Angela Shelton. It was about this woman named Angela Shelton who traveled around America talking to and interviewing other women named Angela Shelton. During the interviews she finds out that 24 out of 40 of her Interviewees had been raped, beaten or molested. This forces her to confront her own dad who molested her as a child. It was an emotionally powerful film. I don't know how many people read my journal, but everyone should check it out, however you can only get it through the website for now.
Another real good documentary was called Monster Road. It was about this clay animator Bruce Bickford. He was a really strange guy but a real genius. The compelling part of this film was the stories about his childhood, and family. He and his family had to deal with some major tragedies, but he just kept on doing what he loved.
I also got to see Kinsey and Being Julia two excellent feature films I don't have a chance to review here. Go see them when they open in theaters, they are both outstanding movies.
