I've begun rehearsals on another kids show that will be touring to schools this fall. It is with the same group that I worked with last year. This year we're doing two plays. One is an anti-bullying play for grades K-3 and the other is a harassment prevention play for grades 6-8. The show for the little kids should be fun, but the show for the older kids is going to be tricky. Not only do we have to deal with awkward ages and raging hormones, but also subjects such as sexual harassment and inappropriate touching that will I'm sure elicit much eye rolling and snickers from the "way too cool" pre-teens. I know that is what I would have done.
Rehearsals began last Saturday and our first show is on Sept 11th. We have a week of rehearsals for each show and its accompanying classroom workshop. We've had rehearsals everyday from 10am-6pm. Today is our first day off, our next day off is next Sunday. It's a lot of work.
The group this year is pretty interesting. It's not the same as last year. Our group last year was a bit wild. This year's group seems a little tamer, which could be both good and bad. None of the actors this year are even from North Carolina. It's a pretty diverse cast which is cool: A Native-American, a Cuban-American, an African-American, and a Honky-American. (Me) They all seem like nice people so far. Hopefully we can still stand each other after two months of doing the show together.
Since we did have today off we all went out last night and sang karaoke. It was amusing, and before you ask, yes I did sing. Here is what I sung:
You should have been there, it was quite a sight, if not a sound.
In other news my roomate decided that the grass is greener in Raleigh, so he's moving out at the end of the month. Now I have to scramble to find a new one. As much as the thought of an apartment all by myself intrigues me, I wouldn't be able to afford the rent for very long. I dread the thought of having to interview potental roomates, hopefully I can find someone I already know that needs an apartment. We'll see.
This weekend my favorite local band, Hope and Anchor have a CD release show at the The Grey Eagle which I'm looking forward to. I encourage all Asheville denizens to check them out. They're really talented.
Ya'll had nothing to do with the scaring away, I promise!
