September 11, 2001 has left a painful scar on my heart. Not as raw and painful as in years past. But it takes very little presure to make it hurt.

I met a man in the park a couple of months ago. I am shy by nature. So, I tend to avoid interactions with complete strangers. This man wouldn't let me walk away after a simple hello. He had a couple of dogs. They were Search and Rescue dogs. I love animals, so this made the interaction worth it.
He told me of a dog of his that had died. It seems he and that dog had been to ground zero. The dog eventually died of respiratory illness from his work at ground zero.
Ground zero responders are still dying from the work they did there.
