EndFest - a Journey of 17 toilets.

Yesterday, the wife and I made a journey to the far North - the mythical emerald land known to shamans as "The greater Seattle area" - to check out Endfest.

It was a birthday present for me, an early one. I asked for tickets to Social Distortion's concert in Portland on Tuesday, but Jen got tickets to Endfest instead, because they were the same price, and carried the promise of 17 different bands.

Good choice.

Endfest was great. The highlight for me was, of course, seeing Social Distortion live for the first time. A great set. Just fantastic, and full of energy.

The rest of the bands were great as well, with the possible exception of Interpol. It isn't that Interpol isn't a good band - they are, though not my favorite. The problem is that they went on just after Social D, and just before Queens of the Stone Age.

That was a mistake. After the high energy of Mike Ness, Interpol was like a valium suppository. They should have gone on before Social D., so their more mellow set wouldn't sap the crowd's energy, and so they would have a chance to shine with their own vibe. Instead, their vibe ran smack into old school aggro buzz, and got squished a bit.

QotSA put on a killer final set, which built the energy right back up. And they brought everybody down into the stadium seating - which only reaffirmed my wife's lust for the lead singer (and I thought it was supposed to be my birthday celebration). smile

Oh yeah - on the way up, we passed the Highlander restaurant (there can be only 1!... in every state). It's big advertising hook was "We have 17 restrooms."

Yeah... come for the veal, stay for the Montezuma's Revenge.
