I went grocery shopping today. Just a few things, plus the important, highly important, vitally important, most important matter of beer. On Friday afternoons, the store I go to has a senior citizen discount. I do not get it, of course. For people on a fixed income, of course, every little bit helps.
On occasion, I see some elderly person looking at an item that they cannot reach anymore, if they ever could. I simply ask if they would like that item, and if they tell me they do, I put it in their cart and move on. I am not a tall guy, but it is a matter of respect.
Today I saw what I supposed to be a very elderly couple. They were leaning on their carts as if they would fall over if they let go, I followed them around, getting the items they had trouble with, and made damn sure they had plenty of help getting thier groceries out to their car. Again, respect.
Of course, they have the little motorized carts that these people shtould have the use of. Since those carts are so low, they might still need my help to get higher items, which I have no problem with. Respect. All four of those motorized cars were taken by 40 to 50 year old fat people. No respect. No respect for themselves, no respect of others, Such as another women, shopping on crutches with a knee brace. Of course, those people could have limited movement, for many possible reasons. Except for the fact that I watched them get off the carts and walk into the parking lot. No respect.
I am carrying a few extra pounds. Quite a few, actually, even though I exercise. I can fit in a movie seat (if you want popcorn, you had better get it fast) or an airplane seat. I can walk, run, jump, and shop for myself ON MY FEET! The "morbidly obese" issue prompted by Michelle Obama is just a hoax. The idiot just wants to raise your children, since she is better and smarter than you.
If you cannot walk, or it is difficult to walk because of you weight, not due to injury or age, maybe you had better take a look at your lifestyle. Maybe you are just Strongbhoy size, and you cannot do anything about that. Strongbhoy, however, boxes and plays the Highland games. So I expect he can shop for himself.
And I am damn sure he would show respect.
